Introduction in tissue engineering

This course (14 h) addresses to the students from Master’s cycle (2nd year of study) – Master of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Specific topics include:  

1. Introduction to tissue engineering;

2. Basic principles of tissue engineering in vitro si in vivo: cellular component (stem cells, differentiated cell), scaffolds (polymeric matrices), signaling molecules.

3. Biocompatibility: in vitro tests to evaluate the biomaterial biocompatibility (tests included in ISO 10993-5 standards; specific tests to assess the cell-biomaterial interactions); In vivo tests to evaluate the biomaterial biocompatibility (tests of sensitivity, intracutaneous reactivity, systemic toxicity, genotoxicity, carcinogenicity, etc.).

4. Applications of tissue engineering in regenerative medicine: Skin tissue engineering, Bone tissue regeneration and tissue engineering; Cartilage reconstruction by tissue engineering; Vascular tissue engineering; Liver tissue engineering.
